This book left me with covered with chills. It begins when a teenager named Mila leaves her foster family to work as a teacher at an isolated farmhouse haunted by ghosts. While living on the farm, Mila finds herself coming face-to-face with her past, which is wrought with tragedy and loss. The writing style is incredibly poetic, the atmosphere is haunting, and the plot is breath-taking. The author’s use of metaphor and symbolism is particularly poignant and gut-wrenching. I felt every ounce of Mila’s pain and loneliness as she embarks on her journey towards healing. At first, her journey is shrouded in mystery but as she begins to embrace those around her and confronts her grief, the final pages bring answers and conclude the story in a truly lovely fashion.
