I wasn't sure what to expect when I read the synopsis of the book and the First Look. Was it going to be a ghost story thriller? It was, but it wasn't. The main character, Mila, had a rough childhood, but we're only slowly given glimpses of what it was. You quickly learn that her first student, Lee, also had a rough start to life. The book was mostly well written (there were a couple spots I had trouble following), but overall, it was an enjoyable story about overcoming our fears and our pasts by embracing them. We can never forget the things that made us who we are, so we have to face them head on. I was able to read this in just a couple hours and it was good for an afternoon read on a Sunday.
