Mila has been in foster care for the last four years since her mother left. She has been chosen as an intern at the farm. A place where she will go to teach children and help out with the farm work until she is old enough to build her own life for herself. When she starts working at the farm and everyone is so kind and helpful. But Mila starts remembering things that she doesn't want to. Things that she has been pushing down for so long. Why are these memories surfacing now?
Throughout this excerpt I was filled with sadness and other emotions. Many of the things that these children have had to go through are heartbreaking and horrible to relive. I do however understand that this is a real part of life and one that I feel doesnt get enough attention. Kids in foster care and who have lost loved ones go through so much trauma.
I am very excited for what is to come. I anticipate a enormous twist. With the introduction and normalcy of ghosts in the story and the poppies on Mila's steps I cant even imagine what will happen next. Part of me feels like Mila's new living situation is too good to be true but I am hoping that all the twists come without her losing faith and love with her new family.
