I typically enjoy books that deal with difficult topics, such as emotional trauma and abuse, addiction disorders, and familial issues. My best friend is a social worker, so I gravitate toward books about foster care as well. Girl In Pieces and The Girls at 17 Swann Street are two of my favorite books.
