Everything about this draws me in. First, the diversity. All of the kids are adopted, but they still have different strengths and weaknesses. There's also multiple black characters. Lee is described as being olive-skinned, which could be European but gives me personally a non-European image.
Then, there's the ghosts. The ghosts are very definitely there. Everyone acknowledges them. That's not something I've ever seen written before, and I'm very curious as to how it plays out.
Lastly, Mila's past being hinted at makes me desperately want to know what happened. What caught on fire? What had she done that is so awful? There's also the fact that she'd already seen a ghost.
