Nina Lacour was one of the first authors I ever discovered that wrote queer books about girls. Everything Leads to You and We Are Okay seriously changed my life. Her contemporaries are always stunning, and this one is no different even though it seems like such a diversion from her usual work!
I honestly didn’t know what this was about whatsoever going into it, other than the fact that I wanted to read it because it was by Nina Lacour; and I still don’t really know what’s it’s about now. But wow, I definitely HAVE to read it. The excerpt was riveting. Her writing is so lyrical it gives me goosebumps. And I can’t get over that setting...an eerie, isolated farm with “ghosts” where the character is forced to reckon with current horrors and her past?? I need this now!! Already in the first 60 some pages I feel like I am gripped by these characters. The tone and plot are so incredibly mysterious you don’t know what’s real and what isn’t. And the fact that it’s so unpredictable that I have no idea as to what’s going on and what’s going to happen, makes it even better. I can’t wait to read more and see how the author ties in these creepy flashbacks to an equally creepy current day.
