After reading La Cour's other works, I wasn't sure what to expect from a magical realism title from her. But, at least in this preview, she delivers. With a main character you want to root for and a multitude of secrets to discover in both the world and the lives of the protagonist, La Cour has created another gut punch of a novel of early adulthood and what it feels like to be adrift in a world that doesn't seem to have a place for you. Highly recommended for fans of Adam Silvera, David Levithan, and Frances Hardinge.
