Thank you to Nina Lacour and Bookish First for the opportunity to review the first 65 pages of this book. It was an easy read, about a troubled young adult, Mila, seeking to find a long-term home, both physically and emotionally, after graduating high school as a foster child. I expected to be drawn in, as the topic matter is compelling. The author used some time shifts from present to past back to present, and that can be disorienting to the story. A lot of characters are introduced in the first 65 pages, without a lot of development for most, so it is hard to connect with most of them. The author provides a nice description of the locations, so it is easier to settle down with the "where" part of the story than the "who" part of the story.

I wasn't ready to leave the book yet after 65 pages, but I wasn't so engaged that I couldn't be distracted from it. I'm mildly curious about what is to come, but I'm not desparate to continue the story, as I have been with some other First Read selections. This is a book that I would read if I was in the mood for a light read.

In the First Impression selection, I saw no graphic violence or sexual content, and saw nothing that would give me pause in sharing the book with an adolescent. I would think this would be a good book to read together with a young adult to share the time, if you have one in your life.
