Fabulous description, but can we talk about that book cover?!

I haven't read anything by Nina Lacour but am looking forward to reading Watch Over Me and everything else they have written. I am confused by the cover though, if I hadn't read the description and only was going on first impression, it probably would've stayed on the shelf because I don't see the connection.
