I really enjoyed this! In the years since, I feel like books about girls that are fighty have become more popular with releases such as THE GILDED ONES (Forna) or BLOOD SCION (Falaye).

This book is set in the future but has a loose basis in the actual Nigerian civil war, and I definitely think that one should prepare for that going in.

This book is raw and brutal while still making sure to have a plot and some characters that one can connect with and root for. The sisters are kids born into a world that isn’t kind and they realize early that they have to fight to get to a place of happiness. And fight they shall.

I personally am not a fan of books that center completely on such violent themes, but I can appreciate the research and time that the author dedicated to the subject.
