I appreciated the comparison to Nnedi Okorafor, because that is exactly the vibe I got from the first look. There is a lot of tech introduced, some conflict, and a small bit of worldbuilding so far. I loved it! I can't wait to read the rest, this book looks very interesting and right up my alley.
