Compelling World Building for a Non-Scifi Reader

After reading the first four chapters, I must know more! I usually avoid science fiction or fantasy novels because I can't relate to their creatures, technology, language, etc., but Tochi Onyebucki weaves these details seamlessly into Onyii's story and I was immediately drawn in.
