From the early lines in WAITING FOR THE NIGHT SONG that "Truth hides in fissures and hollows, in broken places and empty parts," I was new this was a book I had to read! I had met Callie hunting for invasive pine beetles that were not supposed to be in New Hampshire woods. Quickly, the current concerns of climate change, forest fires, and all of their dangers were present. But while that conflict had arrived, a message to Callie from her childhood friend, "They found him," which I soon learned was "...where they left him. Buried in the woods" had me rapidly turning the page to the next chapter where I met Callie as a child, and the beginning story of a long-hidden truth.
