I can find only positive things to say about Virgil Wander. From the first page to the last philosophic paragraph, I was captivated by the use of language, the lyrical descriptive passages and the frequent magical moments. The characters grew as the story progressed - Virgil's awareness that he changed as a person as he recovered from his accident is one of many examples. Rune also changed and grew as he became more of a part of the community and met Lucy. Watching Virgil's relationshio with Nadine and Bjorn grow was predictable, but lovely. All of the residents of Greenstone became real, even minor characters such as Lydia, Dr. Koskinen, and Lily. I would like to live in Greenstone, Minnesota and see the kites fly over Lake Superior.
