Virgil Wander is a meandering travel into a small town with interesting characters. It is not an action story, nor is it a dramatic read. It’s more of a voyeuristic look into the lives of everyday people who do not realize we are watching them. That does not mean that this story is boring. Rather, it takes the more exciting parts of small town life and puts them on display. After all, not every day is dull, no matter how small your town.

Virgil Wander is the name of the main character whose story begins with an accident in which he loses some of his memory. This makes it easy for the reader to join in Virgil’s journey to reclaim what he lost. When we first go into his apartment, we understand his sense of confusion and awe when looking at where he lives for the first time. We feel his sense of surprise when he sees others and he has to reestablish how he knows them and why. We are okay with his struggle to put into words what he is experiencing because as a reader jumping into the middle of a town’s story, we are also feeling a sense of newness as well.

As Virgil continues putting his life back together, he (re) uncovers a mystery when he spots a gentleman flying a kite. Virgil has an immediate connection with the man, or rather with the feeling of freedom that flying the kite gives him. This begins his journey into uncovering his own mystery and figuring out who he really is, while helping the gentleman find what he is looking for.

This is a good read if you just need an escape from them drama of life and want to uncover the mysterious lives of those in a tiny town full of people you can easily connect with and understand.
