My favorite book of all time is Peace Like a River. The writing style of that book staggered me. The 2nd book I read of his was a follow up to that; So Brave, Young and Handsome. At the time I compared it to the amazingness of his first book and found it lacking a bit. Kinda like movie sequels where the first was so innovative and different that it caught you by surprise, while the 2nd could never deliver that novelty. When I reread it again years later, with the immediacy and impact of Peace Like a River faded like an old photograph, I was retaken with Leif Enger's masterful turn of the pen. Okay, that's a backwards way to say how excited I am to read this new book. Reading the first few pages I am immediately drawn in again to Enger's ability to evoke imagery and emotion. Can not wait to read more!
