Wasn't my taste but others love it!

First off I want to start this review with the fact that I have been so excited for this book since I saw it months ago. I am so happy I was able to receive an early copy but unfortunately I couldn't finish it. It should also be noted that I am neurodivergent but everyone experiences that differently.

I completely forgot the premise aside from that it had fae in it, hence the title, when I received it and immediately was just hit with the "not like the other girls" trope. I went to GoodReads to see what my friends were thinking about this book when I couldn't possibly read anymore. That is where I was reminded that the main character is autistic and was based off of the changling "myth" (I'm not sure what to call it myth/fairy tale /old wives tale) and this explains some of the "not like other girls" characteristics but I still would have preferred to see it done a bit differently, especially in the beginning. I know everyone's experience with neurodevelopmental disorders are unique and it is extremely likely that I was just having a bad week and that affected my opinion of the book (especially because my dyslexia has been acting up tenfolds lately). Also, I am big on seeing and not being told in my books and I've noticed it's just not something most YA authors do in a way I enjoy as of late. I suppose my taste in writing has just matured because it does seem like I really only enjoy the ones I listen to nowadays.

I definitely would love to try and read this again, especially if an audiobook comes out for it because I really was hoping to love this. I am still so grateful to the author, publisher, and bookish first for sending me an early copy of Unseelie (which is one of the best fucking names for a book ever btw!) but I still, unfortunately, have to DNF this. This is still my honest review despite receiving this to review and it received two stars out of five because I still did enjoy some aspects and am willing to attempt a reread of this book after a few months.
(Sorry for any writing errors, I have waited a week but am still sick and my brain isn't working good.)
