I was first drawn in by the beautiful, illustrated cover for this book, and the mention of fairies had me sold. I also think it’s great that autism is getting some representation with the main character, Iselia. The book is well written and the story and characters are interesting, but not particularly original (I would say the plot is pretty standard fantasy adventure). I do think that the world building is also a bit underdeveloped. Unfortunately, I never really “clicked” with this book. Perhaps I just wasn’t in the right mood for it, but I found myself wanting to read other things and putting off reading this one, which is not to say it’s a bad book (it’s not), it just wasn’t working for me right now.

As I said before, the cover is absolutely gorgeous! I’m a big fan of illustrated book covers, and I love all the little hidden details within it!

Overall, I gave this book three stars, because I did like it and feel that there is potential for the sequel to be really great.
