Twin sisters? Faeries? Changlings?

We're introduced to "twin" sisters at a festival, one human and the other a changeling. I was confused about the changeling part and their adopted parents--how that whole thing works. Maybe we'll get a better explanation later. Also, it doesn't make sense for the MC to tell others that she's a changeling if she's been treated badly because of it.

The story is a slow start with a heist, magic, and faeries. We're not really drawn into why we're following (or rooting for) the MC and her sister. And from what we're told, it's not that strong enough of a conflict.

The writing does give it a lower YA feel/upper MG (like the Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine), but the themes, situation, and language place the story in an upper YA. Some modern jargon throws us out of the story and there are times when the pacing slows.

The cover does give it an upper MG vibe/lower YA, but it's kind of hard to tell if it's about faeries or humans with magic.
