The informal tone combined with the first person narrator is a bit jarring for my own reading preferences but the plot development is a pleasant surprise and is moving nicely in this brief excerpt so far. I am definitely drawn into the book. The cover really could have been less cartoon-like and more artistic, it looks more like a graphic novel than a fantasy novel from the cover - for cover artwork on fairy-themed novels there's such a rich plethora of beautiful options that suggest an air of mystery, suspense, and surrealism. This, by contrast, comes off as young and simple, which is not an accurate reflection of the book's contents.
