This book was phenomenal, but I almost DNF'd it. The author doesn't shy away from details he finds at crime scenes, and those sections can be difficult to get through. His writing makes you feel like you were there, he is descriptive but doesn't bore the reader with unnecessary information.

Investigator for the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office in California, Holes became obsessed with cold cases, particularly that of the Golden State Killer. This memoir describes his hunt for justice while balancing his other work and keeping his marriage afloat.

Throughout this memoir, Holes remains genuine to the reader. He admits that he wasn't the best husband and father because he became so obsessed with solving cold cases that it led to his and his first wife's divorce. He struggled with anxiety and depression throughout his life which became worse with each new case he was assigned. During all of this, however, Holes remained dedicated to serving justice and catching killers before they could harm anyone else.

Gritty, Sincere, and Empathetic, this is a memoir that will stick with you long after you finish it.
