Unmasked is part true crime and part memoir and I really enjoyed it! Reminiscent of John Douglas’ Mindhunter, Paul Holes takes us through his career solving major cold cases (Golden State Killer for one) and the impact and toll it took on his personal life. Hearing about the lab and department politics, the obsessiveness in closing cases and his desire to learn and apply new technology like DNA testing was so fascinating. I did find that the personal aspects he shared around his relationships with his wives and the marriage issues were less interesting to me. However they definitely do help show the toll that his fixation on solving these cases took on his personal life.

I highly recommend this one to true crime fans or anyone interested in learning more about the CSI/Lab side of solving crimes. An easy to read book with very detailed information.
