I loved every page of Paul Hole's memoir of an extraordinary life working to solve some of America's worst crimes. This is a must-read for muderinos and true crime fans but will not appeal to someone who is sensitive to the graphic nature of homicide and rape. This book holds nothing back.

Hole's memoir is primarily about his career as a dedicated crime scene investigator, but much of the book also focuses on his personal life. He was part of the investigation of so many infamous crimes in recent history - Laci Peterson, Jaycee Dugard, and most notoriously, the Golden State Killer. But he could not leave work at work and his family life suffered.

This book made me both laugh out loud and cry the ugly cry. Hole's stories with Robin Gaby Fisher's polished writing is the perfect combination. The writing was conversational and compelling. Unmasked will be in the running for my favorite book of the year.
