Although the author of "Unmasked", Paul Holes, spent years tracking down the GSK (Golden State Killer) he also successfully discovered many other killers, bringing closure to the victim's families.

The GSK case took years to solve and the book alternates chapters regarding that case with the many other murders that occurred during the same timeframe.

This was a fascinating glimpse into the detective skills it takes to solve a case--very often without evidence or witnesses. It also told of the sacrifices that Holes made in his personal life--peace of mind, family life, and a marriage.

Although the subject matter was gruesome, it was not included to be salacious and the detective skills and evidence uncovered soon overtook any squeamish thoughts. The chapters led this reader to keep reading, looking toward the unmasking and capture of career criminals.

I received an ARC from BookishFirst and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
