I enjoyed reading this excerpt because it reminds me of the well written true crime novels. The writing is personal because it is a memoir and I like hearing how someone who is about to retire is reflecting on his career. He calls his detective life his calling. Few people can feel so passionately about their 9-5 job. I admire such dedication. Also, how did he not go crazy investigating the worst crimes imaginable?
