Truth is stranger than fiction and true crime might be more horrific than crime thrillers. This is a peek into the perspective of a person who has successfully chased after and been involved in the capture of criminals that long-evaded the law. This first impression of Paul Holes' memoir already makes clear that while his career in law enforcement has been impressive for his accomplishments, it came at great personal costs as well. Some of his success is attributed to his loyalty to the victims and their families, but this is a double-edged sword that also meant his work encroached on all aspects of his life. I'd be interested to read more even though it's always difficult to learn about how depraved some individuals are and how entire families and communities are shattered as a result.
