When I read the book, I had no idea that it was 7th (or 10th depending on how you look at it) in a series so had to acclimate to some of the acronyms and the setting. Like, did not realize it was not a contemporary novel until the discussion of the microwave as a brand new hot item.

That being said, I really enjoyed it! Jane is a vibrant character and I loved seeing her relationship develop with fellow detective Boon. The mystery was well developed and there were the right amount of plot twists. One thing I could have done without was the entire whirlwind relationship with Nick…especially the middle section after he sees Jane with the Father Chris and jumps to the wrong conclusions. The book really did not need a one book romantic arc b-plot since it didn’t add to the murder mystery.

Based on this book I’m really interested in watching Prime Suspect and seeing Helen Mirren bring Jane to life!
