Great start to a traditional LaPlante police investigation.

This is book 7 in the exceptional "Tennison" series, following the early years of Jane Tennison in the Metropolitan Police Department. Having left the Flying Squad, Jane, now a Detective Sergeant and newly appointed to the Bromley CID, is hoping for a quieter job so she can study for the Detective Inspector's test.

Unfortunately, her quiet start in Bromley is interrupted when excavators uncover a coffin where no coffin should be. Not in the consecrated ground of a catholic cemetery, the coffin was on the grounds of a former convent which is now being converted into apartments. The coffin is not one typically used for a nun, but a fancier one normally used for a priest or bishop. Even worse, inside the coffin is the murdered body of a woman--apparently a nun. Initial indications suggest both that she was stabbed and buried alive.

Wow! What a setup for a great read! The book has the smooth, crisp, no-nonsense, methodical style that I have come to expect from Lynda La Plante. Having read several books in the "Tennison" series, I look forward to reading this one and would love the chance to review it for Bookish First.
