For readers familiar with Lynda La Plante's detective stories, they expect a quick problem to get the plot rolling, and Unholy Murder is no exception. The beginning of this book reminded me slightly of some of the plot complications of a popular book, The Friday Night Murder Club, except that in that latter book, the coffin became a central issue later in the story. The similarities are the setting in England, a former convent now turned into fairly expensive apartments by a developer, and a sudden unearthing of a coffin during further land development.

The convent in UNHOLY MURDER had gone into decline as there were fewer and fewer nuns. Detective Jane oversees the delivery of the coffin to the mortuary where a body is discovered. And, of course, the coroner feels the death may not have been due to natural causes.

This seems to be a fairly conventional murder mystery, perfect for fans of author La Plante.
