There is ALWAYS a twist!!!
4.5 stars (since I can't give half ratings)
This is not my first Diana Urban book and it will certainly not be my last. This was a different style book for her, the romantic subplot was one of the main plot drivers of the story. But as usual, Diana got me with a MAJOR PLOT TWIST. I had a guess of who, but did not see the whole big twist coming. Once again, she has made me say "WHAT!?!?" out loud and I had to resist the urge to throw the book (this has happened with all of her books, lovingly of course).
Val was definitely a character to hate, but how the other storylines end up is very well done (all be it very sad too). I definitely now have major claustrophobia and while the Paris Catacombs are culturally significant, I will follow the rule of many cataphiles and be ridiculously respectful of the space by staying FAR FAR AWAY from the labyrinth of death.
What kept this from being a full 5 stars was the plot structure seemed like the conclusion could have happened sooner, but kept getting pushed. I appreciate the story, just seemed like it was trying to wrap up at points but instead kept goin. However, the parts that did keep going were FANTASTIC.
