I first want to say how much I absolutely love the cover of this book! The artwork is stunning and set the tone for the story so well!
Under the Surface was a great YA thriller that kept me turning pages and wondering what would happen next. The dual POV between Sean and Ruby was so good and gave us a glimpse in to what was happened down below in the Catacombs but also the event unfolding above.
There were a few characters I didn't love like Val but I don't think she was written to be a likable character. I hated to love Julien and despite everything, I was still rooting for him and kind of wish we knew how everything ended up for him. I also loved that a character with celiacs was mentioned as I have a gluten sensitivity myself. But saying she was sick because she willingly ate gluten was irritating to me. Anyone with celiacs doesn't willingly subject themselves to the pain, vomiting, etc that comes from ingesting gluten.
