With all of the twists and turns in a race against time, Under the Surface is brilliantly written, set with an eerie tone that keeps you on your toes and checking under the bed for things that go bump in the night.
Relatable characters are always such a must for me when reading thrillers like this, and Diana Urban served them up on a silver platter. I felt connected to them - especially the main character, Ruby - because they had such realistic reactions to everything going on around them, not the corny reactions that you normally get in horror movies. Having a dual POV with perspectives from those lost and those searching gave such great insight on what all the characters were thinking and going though.
