Two Sides to Every Murder by Danielle Valentine is a murder mystery surrounding a murder that occurred at a summer camp. It follows two high school students, Olivia and Reagen, who become aware of their parents suspected involvement in the murder and begin investigating in an attempt to clarify what actually happened. The writing style of this book was well done and as the story went along, I found myself excited to find what happened next. And the ending? So unexpected, but so good.

This book has a very strong plot. It’ll be hard for me to explain it in detail without spoiling anything, as there are a lot of twists and turns and unexpected events. Basically, the plot is occurring many years after a murder that occurred at a summer camp. Olivia’s mother was the camp director and gave birth to Olivia at the camp the night of this murder. When Olivia is in high school, her older sister opens a business on the land of the old summer camp. This starts curiosity and investigation revolving around the camp as people visit the camp for the first time since the murder.

The main characters in this book are well written. The book really jumps into the plot with little buildup, so I wish we knew a little more about them and their personalities. Olivia and Reagen are good protagonists and help move the storyline along. The background characters, like Jack and Hazel, are good, but I feel like I didn’t know much about them aside from being friends with the Olivia and Reagen. I would have enjoyed a bit more characterization of all the characters, but overall, the characters were enjoyable and good for the story.

There are a lot of twists and turns in this book. I would not consider this book to be particularly graphic compared to other books with murder that I have read, and that works well with the story. I would rate this book as 3.75/5. I enjoyed the plot and the twists that came with it. I thought it was well written. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries, especially young adult mysteries.
