I really enjoyed reading this book, but it did take me a long time to get through. After months of picking it up and putting it back down, I finally managed to get past the beginning which felt really slow. Once I got past that, I was able to finish the rest of the book in a week. I really enjoyed the characters and the plot, but I think a large portion of the beginning of the book could've been trimmed down. Even though the rest of the book was quite better than the beginning, there were still some slow parts that I had to force myself to read through.
The writing style was very easy to read and understand, which I think made the slower parts of the book more bearable. This book incorporated lots of different cultures into the storyline and characters, and there weren't any moments where I didn't understand the aspects of the cultures included. This book was a great coming of age story that creatively tied in the struggles of the many different cultures included.
