I have been reading quite a lot of books by Nigerian women lately. This is the first YA book, though. Sophie/Adanna is preparing for a "cousin's" wedding. She is firmly entrenched in Nigerian culture, although they live in Canada. Sophie is a HS senior and top of her class. She is on the debate team, and when a new topic "Cultural Appropriations" is presented, she and her teammates start discussing the ramifications.
This could be a very important book for teens and adults.
