Instantly interesting. Complex family dynamics.

Great writing so far. Easy enough to read but also rich with details to follow through in learning about if you are not already aware. This book isn’t shy about sharing culture and delving into the main character’s family dynamics. I was almost immediately curious about what happened to Sam (the main character’s brother) and how her feelings toward him will surely evolve as the plot thickens. Even though there are a lot of “coming of age” YA novels I sense something special and distinct about this one. That it’s going to hit harder and involve much growth and revelatory development.
