Young Adanna is facing the pressure of not only growing up, but growing up in Nigeria, where she is inundated with pressures from all sides to perform well in school, to consider marrying the ‘right person’ that her parents select, and to generally conform in all ways. Added to those stresses is the relationship with her long-estranged brother, who she desperately hopes she can reunite with emotionally. This is a very engaging novel, specifically focusing on the pressures that all young women face as they are about to enter the real world of post-secondary life.
