There is some slang/accents as well as some other languages added into the text which is a little harder to understand, but not too much and it's fairly easy to figure out what the characters are saying/meaning after reading on.
I like that there is some aspects of Colombian culture mentioned as well as how it is to live in New York as a person of color as well as a person with a relative in the US illegally. I've personally not heard of the celebration they mentioned, but it sounded fun in the story!
