This book seems to be about racial inequality, robotics, and what it's like to get a scholarship to the prep school. The main character is struggling because his dad was an illegal immigrant from Jamaica and went back to home to try and get proper paperwork.

Also, he is wanting to advance his knowledge and career towards robotics. So he applies for a scholarship to the prep school in a different part of town and gets in with a scholarship.

I'm honestly not completely sure what the focus of the book is based on the first impression, but I am intrigued to possibly find out. There is mention of police prejudice, racism, deportation, but also drugs and gang violence. The other side is you have mention of a dojo, robotics, and multiple potential romantic relationships. Did I forget to mention dementia? This book could literally go in any direction.

There were a few moments I felt like the author over-described certain scenes, but for the most part it seemed to be done well. The dialogue matched well with the typical accents, but sometimes that bled into the non-dialogue parts.

The book cover could have been better done, it seems very elementary to me.
