The first chapter through too much backstory and telling at me and it dragged down the story for me. After chapter one, however, the character interactions helped the pace pick up and with that, also my interest. I enjoyed the setting and felt as if I were on the streets of New York. The issues this book promises to deal with are important and many readers will see themselves inside.
