I really liked reading from Gil's POV, the author builds a strong sense of personality and presence - of both the Caribbean cultures and of Brooklyn. In some ways it should be a relatable story for everyone, with themes of growing into yourself, reconciling between different parts of your life, balancing who you are with who you want to become and not losing either. This is explored against the backdrop of some more serious issues, such as structural discrimination, racial tensions, the treatment of immigrants. I'm glad this story is being told. I'm curious how the title of the book ties in.
