True True opens in the midst of J'ouvert, and the reader can practically hear the music and see the spatters of paint all around. Our main character Gil is on the cusp of transferring to Augustin Prep for its world-class robotics program. This First Look reminds me of After the Shot Drops by Randy Ribay (for the conflict of leaving neighborhood friends behind for a different school) and In the Heights (for the atmosphere and loving representation of a neighborhood). The cover image really captures the energy of Don P. Hooper's writing. I think this one will be popular with a wide range of teen readers!
