Overall, I thought Totally Psychic was a fun, well-written middle grade story. It was a light read that was easy to get through. I think there are many

The magical realism was probably my favorite part of the story. I loved seeing Paloma's magic ("The Gift") throughout the story. The lore was also a fun aspect that I enjoyed reading!

I wished the characters were a bit more developed. I thought Paloma's family seemed more like caricatures than anything, which was a bummer. Because I wanted the characters to be more fleshed out, there was nothing pulling me to pick up the book whenever I put it down. That ultimately resulted in this book taking longer for me to get through (even though it wasn't a challenging read).

Paloma specifically, however, felt like a well-fleshed out family. From the way she struggled to make friends, and figuring out where she fits in. Although this read more like upper middle grade, I think a lot of pre-teen readers will enjoy this book.
