Like her famous abuela, Paloma has a gift, she can communicate with those who are dead and see the future. She wants nothing more than to travel with her abuela who is going on a Latin American tour to showcase her psychic abilities. But, instead, Paloma's family is moving from Miami to California. Her mother makes it clear that she does not like Paloma using her abilities, but she wants to prove that she is a skilled medium so she starts doing spirit readings at school and on social media. Paloma is not only risking getting in trouble with her mother, but she is also learning to navigate her abilities which proves to be a challenge. As Paloma learns about being a psychic she also learns important life lessons related to family, friendship, and responsibility. This was a fun read and I think middle grade readers who enjoy magical realism will enjoy it.
