This was such a creative approach to the genre, and I'm happy that I think it will appeal to older middle school readers since sometimes they are harder to reach. I also love when books like this have a little something extra, like in this case the focus on flowers. That way you learn something as you're being entertained. The ghost element to the action was my favorite part. I enjoyed the fact that it was generally so accepted that Paloma could communicate with the ghosts because that opened the door to a storyline that could go beyond just trying to convince everyone that she was not imagining things. I also think there are a lot of good lessons in this story that will make an impact on middle schoolers without being too forceful. For example, how to set boundaries, and the risks of trying too hard to impress others. I'm looking forward to the author's next book!
