I'm not going to lie. I didn't expect a lot from this book. I've pretty much outgrown the YA market. This was a decent read though. The plot wasn't strong, and the characters were a little one dimensional, but the setting sells the whole thing. I'm a sucker for a good spooky religion story, and this flipped that switch for sure. The religion is appropriately weird, as is the act of throwing up moths and becoming a praying mantis in your girlfriend's bathroom. The snow didn't seem to have true consequences, which was a bummer. Wil and Elwood talk about frostbite and hypothermia quite often for two people who have no real experience with either. However, I understand that this is a young adult spooky book, so there's a lot of leeway for weak details. I wouldn't give this book five stars, but I'd go for 3.5, which rounds up to four, and that's enough.
