Together We Rot by Skyla Arndt is a killer debut novel! While I'm certain there have been other books published prior that would fall under the category of horromance, this is the first one I've read that was so precisely the collision of the two genres! Skyla pulls no punches in this dark, lush, terrible, and beautiful friends-to-lovers story. The characters were perfectly flawed--and not just the protagonist and love interest. Each person in the cast was written with a depth that made them easy to love one moment, hate the next, and ultimately understand if not relate to. The story was relatively short as compared to most recent YA novels I've been reading and moved with lightning speed. I was engrossed in the plot the entire time, rooting for the protagonist and the love interest, spinning with each plot twist and reveal, and agonizing at the painful bits that I won't spoil in this review. Together We Rot is a quick and satisfying read with unforgettable characters and a world you won't be able to get out of your head even after the story's end.
