Thank you to Viking Books and BookishFirst for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Together We Rot by Skyla Arndt is an amazing new blend of the horror and romance genres. The story is told from the dual first-person POV's of Wil and Elwood. Everyone believes that Wil's mother ran away, but Wil won't stop until she finds out what really happened. Elwood is the son of the pastor of the cult-like Garden of Adam, and his father has very sinister plans in store for him. Can Wil and Elwood team up to save each other? Will their friendship turn into something more?

Here is an exciting excerpt from Chapter 1, which is from Wil's point of view:

"It doesn’t count as evidence if you were stalking them, Wil.”
Sheriff Vrees has been kicking up a storm since I waltzed through the
door, but he lets out another groan for good measure. We’ve got a weekly
ritual, the two of us. I’ve spent the last year digging into his ribs like a
thorn, looming over my mother’s missing person case, and he’s spent the
last year looking into early retirement.
“You can’t solve crimes by committing your own,” he says flatly."

Overall, Together We Rot is a YA horror-romance that will appeal to fans of Dana Schwartz's Anatomy: A Love Story or the TV show CSI. One highlight of this book is the ground-breaking blend of two different genres. Another highlight of this book are the exciting and suspenseful scenes, which had me seriously nervous for the main characters are several points. If I had to complain about 1 thing, I would say that I was disappointed by the ending, but to avoid spoilers, I won't say anything more than that. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of this new horror-mance genre, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes in August!
