Overall, I think the premise of this book is very interesting! I like the mystery surrounding Wil's mother, the weird culty church vibes, and the way that the nature surrounding the town is described like almost a living thing. This excerpt certainly has some strong atmosphere and good mystery established.
Still, I didn't particularly enjoy reading either Wil or Elwood's perspectives and just wasn't drawn into them the way I wanted to be, or find them to be quite distinctive enough from each other. I also just didn't really enjoy the way character's and places are named throughout this excerpt very much. But overall, this excerpt sets up a very interesting mystery with neat horror elements, and I can see this book working really well for a different reader!
