When I was in middle school, I fell in love with Christopher Paolini's Eragon and each successive book in The Inheritance Cycle. Ever since To Sleep in a Sea of Stars was announced, I couldn't wait for it to come out and see how Paolini tackled a sci-fi novel. To Sleep in a Sea of Stars has the feel of an epic space opera and is executed as such. The tropes are familiar but I like Paolini's treatment of them and how they're incorporated into the story. Those who were fans of The Inheritance Cycle will recognize a similar page count with this one. This is not a deterrent though as it gives you a chance to get immersed in the well-crafted worldbuilding. Plus, the story moves quick and has plenty to pull you along. This doesn't read as a 900 page novel. Fans of the genre will find plenty to love here and I recommend they check it out.
